The Benefits of Essential Oils, Pt. 1

The Benefits of Essential Oils, Pt. 1

Do you love the many different soap scents that we offer? Do you ever wonder how we get such concentrated fragrant scents infused into our goat milk soap products? Well, we're glad you asked!

One of our favorite ingredients used in our goat milk soap is essential oils. Essential oils are a concentrated liquid that contain aroma compounds from plants. They are generally extracted by distillation, often by using steam and have been used for centuries. These oils are used in a range of different ways and products from perfumes, cosmetics, soaps, and other beauty products to flavoring food and drinks, to simply adding all-natural scent to household cleaning products. They also have incredible medicinal uses and are pure, all-natural, clean, and fresh.

We use about 15 different essential oils in our soaps and are constantly experimenting with more. Today, we're sharing five of the essential oils we use at Bend Soap Company and explaining the therapeutic benefits they can provide you with.

#1: Spearmint

Besides the refreshing, minty scent, when inhaled, spearmint has a calming and relaxing effect. It also helps with indigestion, headache, and nausea and has been said to soothe minor aches and pains.

Spearmint oil contains menthol which is refreshing for the skin as it creates a cooling sensation. This often helps with muscle relaxation. Furthermore, it nourishes dull skin and improves the texture of oily skin. It's such a refreshing and invigorating oil, and we're pleased to offer this natural oil in our products.

You can find this essential oil in the following products:

#2: Grapefruit

What a wonderful, bright essential oil. This is such a refreshing and nutrient-rich addition to our soaps. Grapefruit essential oil has been known to cure depression and relieve stress when inhaled. We're constantly looking for more reasons to use this fabulous oil in our products.

Hi Tessa!

We are very aware of the deforestation and harm to animals that occurs from the business practices of some companies. However, we have been very careful to select providers that use environmentally friendly and sustainable practices for all of our ingredients. We believe that it’s possible to enjoy the benefits of nature’s produce (such as red palm oil) while also operating in a way that leaves the earth and its inhabitants (human and animal) as well or better off than when we started!

We also want to mention that there is a difference between commercial palm kernal oils and the natural harvesting and use of the fruit of the red palm (which is quite similar to the coconut). This ingredient is super high in Vitamin E and natural antioxidants and is a superfood for the skin.

Our essential oils are 100% natural, obtained from various botanicals around the world. We’ve chosen these oils for their scent, and often their properties. All essential oils we use are 100% pure, undiluted and often times steam-distilled to obtain the highest level of purity. That means no added dyes, perfumes, etc. No junk in our products!

Hi Mary!

Thank you so much for your inquiry about our essential oil sources. We know there are so many inferior sources out there, however, we have sourced our ingredients from botanicals all over the world. The essential oils we use are 100% pure, undiluted, and without additives.

Hi Jodi!

True! Not all essential oils (or “natural soaps”) are created equally! We chose our essential oils and other ingredients (oatmeal, honey, lavender, etc.) to impart various therapeutic, restorative, or yummy-scented properties.

Hey! I recently purchased a bar of unscented soap and an unscented sugar scrub and love them! Plus the free sample honey grapefruit bar soap is very nice. I was wondering where y’all get your essential oils from?

Mary Presler

hello….I just placed an order and so excited to get it. I love natural soaps and have done some research on the benefit of natural vs. chemical. I am curious of the source of essential oils you use in your soaps. I have researched that some essential oils are still not good for you as they contain dyes, perfumes, etc. and are not 100% essential oils. Can you give me some info on what you use?
Thank You so Much!
Jodi
